Vegan Air Fryer Shrimp

These amazing air fryer vegan shrimps are super crispy. This recipe is completely vegan and delicious! It is the perfect recipe not only for vegans, but those who are allergic to shellfish and even meat eaters love this!

This recipe is super simple. All you need is vegan shrimp, flour, water, and panko bread crumbs.

These are great as an appetizer with your favorite dip or can be served as a full meal with your favorite sides. Check out these side dishes that would pair nicely with Smashed Potatoes.

I love this recipe because I developed a shellfish allergy over the years, yet I still crave shellfish. Vegan shrimp looks very similar to shrimp and even taste a little fishy… which I love!

What is vegan shrimp made of:

The vegan shrimp I bought include tapioca starch, potato starch, soy protein, yeast, and other ingredients that give it that likeliness of shrimp.

Alternatives for this recipe:

For my non-vegan eaters, you can swap the water with eggs (use 2 eggs for this recipe). You can switch the vegan shrimp with shrimp (be sure to devein your shrimp).

How to Make Air Fryer Crispy Shrimp:

Prepare your dredging station by placing flour, seasoning, and water in one bowl. Mix well. In a second bowl, place the panko breadcrumbs.

Dip each shrimp in the batter mixture. Shake off any excess before dipping into the panko breadcrumbs. Then dip your vegan shrimp in the panko breadcrumbs.

Spray air fryer rack or basket with cooking oil. Place vegan shrimp on rack or basket, making sure shrimps are not overlapping. Spray the vegan shrimp lightly with cooking spray.

Air fry at 400 degrees F for 8 minutes and flipping shrimp and spraying cooking oil halfway through.

Remove shrimp when golden brown.

Serve shrimp with your favorite dipping sauce. I used sweet chili sauce, but feel free to use cocktail sauce or tartar sauce.

  • 7 oz vegan shrimp about 18 vegan shrimp
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup water
  • ½ tsp Cajun seasoning
  • 1 ¼ cup panko breadcrumbs
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions
 

  • If vegan shrimp is frozen, defrost shrimp.
  • Prepare your dredging station by placing flour, water, and Cajun seasoning in one bowl. Mix well. In a second bowl, place the panko breadcrumbs.
  • Dip each shrimp in the batter mixture. Shake off any excess before dipping into the panko breadcrumbs. Then dip your vegan shrimp in the panko breadcrumbs.
  • Spray air fryer rack or basket with cooking oil. Place vegan shrimp on rack or basket, making sure shrimps are not overlapping. Spray the vegan shrimp lightly with cooking spray.
  • Air fry at 400 degrees F for 4 minutes then flip shrimp with tongs. Spray cooking oil lightly on shrimp again and cook for another 4 minutes. Remove shrimp when golden brown.
  • Serve shrimp with your favorite dipping sauce. I used sweet chili sauce, but feel free to use cocktail sauce or tartar sauce.
  • Serve hot.
