Strawberry Breakfast Pastries

A simplified, delicious, tasty pastry recipe. Made with a flaky store-bought pastry with fresh strawberries and powdered sugar.

These are heart shaped pastries that are perfect for Valentine’s Day.

These pastries are slightly sweetened which allows the natural flavors of strawberry to come forward. It has a sweet and tangy taste. If you like sweeter desserts, you can add extra honey to coat the strawberries and extra powder sugar.

Ingredients Needed for Strawberry Breakfast Pastries

  • Puff pastry- I used store bought pastry found in the freezer isle. If you have a favorite homemade puff pastry recipe you can use this also.
  • Fresh strawberries- try to use sweet strawberries for best results.
  • Honey- this adds extra sweetness to the strawberries.
  • Egg- used to make egg wash for pretty, golden-brown crust.
  • Powdered sugar- this is added for sweetness and a final garnish

How to Make These Strawberry Heart Pastries

  • Thaw frozen puff pastry as directed. Slightly roll out after puff pastry has thawed.
  • Preheat oven to 400 F.
  • Wash and cut strawberries into small dices. Mix strawberries and honey.
  • Cut pastry into heart shapes using a cookie cutter
  • Score a heart shape inside the cut hearts.
  • Add strawberries over the scored section.
  • Brush the edges with egg wash.
  • Bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Cool and dust with powdered sugar.

How to Make This Recipe Your Own

You could use other berries like raspberries or blueberries.

You could add cream cheese mixed with honey to the base of your strawberries to add an extra creaminess.

You can also use any other shaped cookie cutters.

Strawberry Breakfast Pastries

Ingredients
  

  • 1 sheet puff pastry
  • about 2/3 cup of small diced strawberries
  • 1 tsp honey
  • 1 egg whisked with 1 tbsp water
  • powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions
 

  • Thaw puff pastry according to directions on the package.
  • Preheat oven to 400 F degrees.
  • Wash and cut strawberries to small pieces. Mix with honey.
  • Slightly rolled out puff pastry.
  • Cut pastry into heart shapes using a 3-inch heart shape cookie cutter.
  • Using a sharp pairing knife or toothpick, lightly score a heart inside of each cut out heart, without cutting entirely through the bottom of the dough. Leave some place between the scored heart and the edge of the cut heart. See photo above for reference.
  • Add strawberries to the scored heart without covering the edges.
  • Brush egg wash on the edge of hearts.
  • Bake for 15 minutes or until edges are golden brown. Let cool and dust with powdered sugar. Serve.

Notes

Add extra honey in strawberry mixture or powdered sugar if you prefer sweeter pastries. Optional you can add decorated sugar to your strawberries for extra sweetness too. Pastries are best served same day it is prepared.
